Stop-arm Enforcement

The left side system photographs approaching vehicles (including the driver and license plate) that pass the bus illegally in both directions. When the bus returns to the depot at the end of the school day, the photos and data are downloaded wirelessly through a secure computer interface directly to the AlertStar processing center, matched with DMV registration information, and then forwarded electronically to the police department for final review and distribution to the offender. A traffic citation is then mailed to the registered owner.

The system is completely autonomous; it is activated when the bus ignition switch is turned on and requires no further driver intervention during a normal bus route. The cameras are housed in a tamper-proof heated and cooled enclosure to ensure operational capability in weather extremes.
