Frequently Asked Questions |

How can I get this implemented in my child's district?
Currently AlertStar is conducting a Pilot test in Arizona. At the conclusion of the test and beginning in the 2008/2009 school year, we will be seeking other communities for implementation. Please contact us directly if you are interested in hearing more about how your community can benefit from the AlertStar Safety Program.
How does the revenue share work?
AlertStar will fund all of the equipment, installation, operation, management, and maintenance of the program. In exchange, we negotiate a revenue share agreement with the host city whereby we recover our initial cost and ongoing management and operational costs when a violator pays their fine.
Who provides the ticket processing?
AlertStar has a secure data processing facility where all tickets are generated and quality checked. AlertStar then sends the tickets to the appropriate police agency for verification, printing and mailing to the offender.
Are stop-arm violators a real problem?
In a national study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), stop-arm violations where confirmed in great numbers in every state researched. As an example, NHTSA identified that in New York, 35,000 to 50,000 violations occurred each day on its roadways. A recent daylong survey conducted by New York law enforcement called "Operation Safe Stop," confirmed those numbers. AlertStar conducted its own survey on buses in our pilot project city and the results were staggering.
Isn't this just another money-grab for the City?
AlertStar takes the safety and security of children very seriously. Currently the majority of stop-arm violators who endanger our schoolchildren go unpunished. Misbehaving children who make riding the bus uncomfortable and dangerous for other children go unpunished because proof of their actions is hard to establish. The collection of fines from stop-arm violators funds an entire safety and security solution for the children - on the left side, inside and on the right side of the bus. School districts who are already struggling with their budgets get access to the entire solution at no cost. It is a win-win situation for everyone involved.
In addition, AlertStar donates a portion of its revenue back to the local chapter of the AlertStar Community Child Safety Foundation to fund other local child safety initiatives within those communities.
Will AlertStar install the system on ALL of the school buses in our fleet?
Prior to the implementation of the system, AlertStar and the host city conduct an analysis on the routes that encounter the highest incident rate of stop-arm violations (most dangerous routes for the children).
We recognize that school districts will want to install these systems on all of their buses and we will work with them to find a way to determine the maximum number of systems to install.
